Lies, deception and sibling rivalry begin an epic fantasy in Inferno’s Heir by Tiffany Wang. Teia Carthan abandoned her morals long ago, and now there’s nothing she won’t do to stay alive. So far she has survived her parents’ deaths, the ire of the Council, and innumerable attempts on her life, orchestrated by half-brother Jura, soon-to-be king of Erisia. But with a rebellion aiming to overthrow the monarchy that Jura hopes to crush, Teia finds herself on the side of the rebels and gets more than she bargained for.

With a fast-paced plot full of twists throughout, Inferno’s Heir is a high fantasy that I couldn’t put down. Between the betrayals, shaky alliances, and plot reveals that led from one twist to another, this book will engross and delight any reader. I had a lot of fun reading this story that was full of action and one that I would consider a top book of 2024. Wang does a fantastic job of building this fantasy world that feels so realistic but is yet so creative. From the specific detailed descriptions of the palace and Blackgate prison to sprawling city streets to the interconnected kingdoms within the land that tie the entire story together, there is so much to love about the world Wang has built. I easily got sucked into this fantasy world full of magic and mythology.

Each character is well written and given a lot of depth that makes them leap off the page. Their unique in their own way and I appreciated Wang telling each of the backstories in a thoughtful and empathetic way. Each character is easy to fall in love with, especially Teia, who is trying so hard to do the right thing but constantly must use cunning and wit to get what she wants. She is extremely clever and is the perfect character to carry this story from beginning to end. But as much as Teia is a strong female lead, she constantly follows a morally grey path that puts her in questionable situations and doing unsavory actions. However, this adds to Teia’s complexity as a character and provides even more depth to the story.

I really enjoyed reading this high fantasy novel and am looking forward to reading more from Tiffany Wang. If you like battle for the throne fantasy adventures full of magic and betrayal, then Inferno’s Heir is a must-read!
