A sensitivity read involves having a knowledgeable reader review your manuscript for cultural accuracy, representation, and respectful portrayal of marginalized communities. I offer Authenticity and Sensitivity Book Reviews to help bring out authenticity around marginalized voices. As an authenticity reader, I utilize my lived in experiences and and expertise to provide feedback on character representation within your story. My specialty is focused on eliminating biases, negative stereotypes, and clichés from your stories where I provide honest feedback on how your story portrays People of Color. These areas can include:
African American experience including culture, dialogue and relationships
Women in STEM especially black women in STEM and tech
Women’s issues and gender roles
Women aged 35+
Sexual orientation: dating, monogamy, heterosexuality

I review in progress manuscripts to provide honest feedback on characters, plot, setting, etc. in addition to giving a holistic evaluation of the overall work. We will decide ahead of time on what the sensitivity read should focus on. Here’s a quick overview of our collaboration for your authenticity review:
