Wickedly Dark….Deceptively Sweet
Wickedly dark and hauntingly sweet, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Choksani takes you on a journey of past and present through the eyes of a bridegroom as he discovers who his wife truly is. Its a story of friendship between Indigo and Azure, 2 girls from completely different worlds - one from a broken home and the other from a world of wealth and privilege. With time jumping viewpoints, you’ll read of an ill begotten friendship between Indigo and Azure as they navigate the twists and turns of high school, discover who they truly are, they develop a bond that looks friendly on the outside but quickly turns obsessive, controlling and murderous.
Filled with secrets, obsession, and intrigue, I didn’t want to put this novel down! It was an instant page turner for me with a plot twist that I didn’t see coming. Full of gothic vivid imagery, this fast paced easy to read novel kept me guessing and then guessing again until the very end. Who is she really??? It really made me wonder how far you and your friends will go for friendship. Is it good friendship or toxic friendship? Are we really that much alike? How far and what risks am I willing to take to keep my friends? Can I recognize how much control someone has over me? All these questions and so many more stayed on my mind as I read this novel both for myself and the characters. With multiple points of view and strong character development, I read the creation and destruction of Indigo and Azure’s budding friendship and tried to pick a side when things went horribly wrong. Ultimately…..I was ultimately wrong. That’s what makes this book so good!
I highly recommend The Last Tale of the Flower Bride for your next read! If you loved this book, then you’ll love Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Happy reading!
